We'll assess your situation over the phone and help determine whether you need immediate attention or a scheduled appointment.

Some of the emergencies we handle at Harbortown Dental Care are:

  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Dental pain
  • Infected or abscessed teeth
  • Facial pain or swelling
  • Lost or broken restorations, like a filling or crown
  • Broken or cracked dentures

Even if your emergency isn’t listed here, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (313) 259-2410 right away if you or a loved one is experiencing a dental emergency in Detroit, MI.

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore a Dental Emergency

A dental emergency can quickly become more serious if you delay treatment. Here’s why you shouldn’t delay seeking treatment.
Higher Cost
The longer you wait on treating a problematic tooth, the more complicated and costly the treatment may become.
Tooth Loss
In some cases, an untreated infection can lead to tooth loss, which is an outcome that root canal treatment may have prevented.
Infection Spreads
Left untreated, a dental infection can spread to surrounding teeth, enter the bloodstream, or affect other critical areas of the body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time, and at Harbortown Dental Care, we understand that. That's why Dr. Faircloth and our team are committed to making sure you're never left without guidance, even when our doors are closed.

Experiencing a Dental Emergency in Detroit?

If you experience a dental emergency after business hours, here's what we recommend:

  • Listen to our after-hours message. If you call our office outside regular business hours, our phone message will provide important instructions to guide you through your situation until we can see you.
  • Manage pain and swelling at home. Over-the-counter pain medication and a cold compress placed on the outside of your cheek can help minimize discomfort and reduce swelling in the meantime.
  • Handle a knocked-out tooth with care. If you have a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown, never the root, and keep the cells moist by placing it in milk or between your cheek and gum until you can reach us.
  • Avoid certain foods. If you have a cracked, broken, or sensitive tooth, steer clear of hard, crunchy, or extremely hot or cold foods until Dr. Faircloth sees you.
  • Visit an emergency room if necessary. If you are experiencing severe bleeding, swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, or significant trauma, please seek emergency medical care immediately.

We also warmly welcome new patients experiencing dental emergencies, because everyone deserves prompt, compassionate care when they need it most. Call us first thing when we open at (313) 259-2410, and we'll do our very best to get you in as soon as possible!

Emergency Dental Treatment

Dr. Faircloth provides gentle, compassionate care to all of her patients, especially in moments that feel urgent. Depending on your needs, she may recommend one or more of the following treatments to restore your smile and oral health:

  • Tooth-colored fillings — Restore small areas of tooth decay that could be problematic
  • Porcelain crowns or veneers — Repair broken, decayed, or chipped teeth
  • Denture repair — Coordinate repair with a dental lab for cracked or broken dentures so you don’t have to live without your teeth
  • Root canal treatment — Eliminates tooth infection and discomfort
  • Tooth extraction — Removes problematic teeth that are not salvageable
  • Dental implants — Replace one or multiple missing teeth

You Can Prevent Dental Emergencies

Did you know that with consistent preventive teeth cleanings and checkups every six months, we can help you prevent many dental concerns before they become more significant problems?

When Dr. Faircloth spots decay in your tooth early on, you can likely treat it with a simple dental filling. If decay is left unnoticed or untreated, it will progress deeper into your tooth and eventually reach the nerve, where it can cause an infection.

If it’s time for your next dental teeth cleaning and checkup, give our team a call to schedule an appointment.

Televisions in Treatment Rooms

At Harbortown Dental, each of our treatment rooms is equipped with a television. Our TVs serve as a patient education tool, allowing Dr. Faircloth and our team to walk you through treatment visuals, explain procedures clearly, and make sure you feel fully informed every step of the way.

Because when you understand what's happening and why, the whole experience feels a lot less intimidating and a lot more empowering.
