Clear Aligners

Whether you’re trying to eat your favorite food comfortably or smile for the camera on Zoom, crooked teeth can be a hassle. They may impact how confident you feel when meeting or interacting with new people, and they may also impact your chewing function if your bite is misaligned.

Guess what doesn’t have to be a hassle? Straightening your teeth!

With clear aligners, you can gradually align your teeth without having to wear braces. Dr. Faircloth offers clear aligners at our Detroit dental office, and we can help you determine if they’re right for your needs.

How Do Clear Aligners Work?

Dr. Faircloth uses 3-D imaging to create a treatment plan for aligning your teeth and bite. Using this information, your clear aligners are created in a series of sets that you’ll wear for 22 hours each day. You’ll change your aligners every two weeks, moving to the next set in the series. Compliance with wearing your aligners daily is key to successful, timely treatment.

The Clear Aligner Advantage

Straightening your teeth is a big decision, and you have options. If you’re choosing between traditional braces and clear aligners, here are some benefits of the aligners to consider.
Excellent Discretion
Since the aligners are clear, no one will notice that you’re straightening your teeth.
Easily Removable
You can remove your clear aligners for meals, so there are no dietary restrictions as there are with braces.
Simple Home Care
It’s easier to brush and floss with removable aligners rather than having to navigate around brackets and wires.
Comfortable to Wear
Clear aligners are smooth and comfortable, unlike metal braces, which can poke and irritate soft tissues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear aligners are a discreet and convenient way to align your teeth. However, cleaning them is essential for maintaining both your oral health and the life of your trays. At Harbortown Dental Care, we want to make sure your treatment goes as smoothly as possible, so here's what you need to know.

Clear Aligner Care 101

Rinse them whenever you remove them. Always rinse your aligners with lukewarm water when you take them out. This helps prevent plaque and bacteria from building up on the trays.

Clean them every day. To keep your aligners fresh and clear, we recommend:

  • Brushing them gently with mild, clear soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Rinsing thoroughly after cleaning to remove any soap residue
  • Soaking them in aligner cleaning crystals or a denture cleaner for a deeper clean
  • Avoiding toothpaste, which can be abrasive and cause scratches

Avoid heat and harsh products. Never use hot water to clean your aligners; it can warp the plastic and affect your treatment. Similarly, steer clear of colored or scented soaps, which may stain or damage the trays.

Keep your mouth clean, too. Brushing and flossing before you reinsert your aligners helps prevent food particles and bacteria from trapping against your teeth.

What Problems Can Clear Aligners Fix?

While clear aligners work well for many patients, they can’t correct complex bite issues. Dr. Faircloth may recommend traditional braces if you’re dealing with complicated bite concerns.

Some of the problems clear aligners are ideal for are:

  • Crooked Teeth
  • Crossbites
  • Crowding
  • Teeth That Overlap
  • Gaps Between Teeth

The best way to determine if clear aligners are right for you is to book an evaluation with Dr. Faircloth. She uses x-rays, 3-D imaging, photos, and a thorough exam to gather information about your teeth and bite and create a personalized treatment plan.

If clear aligners are not right for your needs, she’ll discuss other treatment options with you.
